Urological Cancer Treatment in Kolkata

Uro-oncology specialists will work with a radiation oncologist when radiotherapy needs to be performed. The uro-oncologist will determine if any other treatment, such as chemotherapy, is needed. Surgery is one of the most essential tools used to treat urological cancer. Other treatments for urological cancer include:

  • Prostatectomy: It is a surgical treatment option for prostate cancer. It is needed in advanced stages where all prostate glands need to be removed.
  • Cystectomy: It is a surgical procedure used to treat bladder cancer. It can be performed as a partial cystectomy in which a part of the bladder is removed or a large cystectomy in which the whole bladder is removed. It can be done with constipation or laparoscopic surgery.

When the whole bladder is removed, reconstructive surgery is performed to create a urinary tract.

In the case of kidney cancer, a nephrectomy is a procedure performed to remove cancer cells from the kidneys. If cancer first appears, an incomplete nephrectomy will be performed to remove only the affected parts. If it is in the advanced stage, then a powerful nephrectomy is performed to remove all the kidneys. It can be performed with either open surgery or laparoscopy that involves small incisions.

The surgical procedure to treat testicular cancer may include a very powerful orchiectomy. In this procedure, the entire testicle can be removed along with the cancer cells.
